White Chocolate & Pistachio Tiramisu
by Cynthia Loh, Diva Asia
To prepare:
Finely chop or grate the white chocolate buttons.
Blanch the pistachios in boiling water to remove the skins, then blend them to obtain a smooth, creamy paste.
Whisk the egg yolks with 130g of sugar and vanilla seeds until thick and creamy, then delicately fold the mascarpone cheese, chocolate and the pistachio paste.
Whip the egg whites until stiff with the remaining 20g of sugar and a pinch of salt, then gently fold into the cream mixture.
Spread 1/4 of the cream mixture into a mould or glass, add a layer of sponge finger biscuits and sprinkle with 1/2 the wine. Repeat these layers and finish with the remaining cream mixture.
Place in the fridge for at least three hours before cutting and serving.

Mini dolls for Schoolaholic scenes
Both Nana and Phil are Pisces - faces do not match, not good looking enough
Actually, my sister first saw this figurine in our family doctor's office (taller version, should be 30 cm instead of this 13 cm), with his handsome young version face (LOL). And then we talked about that doll (so cool if you are a doctor). And we find that actually the doll is now available in Singapore. You can order it (but quite expensive - sigh). Well, both Nana and Phil are doctors - so they can have this doll with their face.Thursday, September 3, 2009

Seoul - Cruising the Han River & Checking Palace (3)
Is it possible to brag that you have seen Seoul without setting foot on the hallowed soil of its ancient palaces? We didn’t think so. Thus, off we went to Gyeongbok-gong. It was like stepping into a Korean period drama – the sandy paths, spartan interiors edged with luxurious draperie

Seoul - Shop & dance ‘til you drop (2)
But Myeongdong tops the of my list for shopping haunts. I love browsing the fashion streets as much as the Lotte Department Store and Lotte Young Plaza. The only setback that everything on the racks was winter wear. But the gorgeous togs proved too tempting – I ended up lugging home five coats in different colours and designs. And the fashion streets offered such a mind-boggling variety that I never got tired of strolling up and down the bumpy path, prancing in and out rows of shops one after the other. The most value-for-money items? Accessories!!! Earrings, chains, handphone straps, hair ties are very reasonably-priced and there are dozens to take your pick from. Nestled along the retail maze are also several popular brand boutiques like Gap, Uniqlo, American Apparel and edgy, multi-label stores like Aland.
Hongdae boasts a famous music and clubbing scene and I found out why. It was one of the best clubbing experiences I have ever had. The music was a mixture of live rap performances and slick R&B ditties guaranteed to keep revellers on their feet. It definitely kept mine moving for a few hours straight. Plus, for some strange reason everyone seemed to be sober and was genuinely intending on just dancing the night away. No inebriated people stumbling about or sleazy action on the dance floor. My guess is that Koreans possess a high tolerance to alcohol in addition to a good sense of fun.

The Seoul Way (1)
By Lydia Soh, Kozine Magazine Feb-Mar 2009
Stepping out of Incheon International Airport to wait for the airport limousine, I was greeted by chilly, frigid air (It was about 5°C).
My airport limousine bus ride from Incheon International Airport to downtown Seoul took less than an hour. My friends, who flew in a week later, were stuck in the bus for over two hours because of the notorious traffic.
The subway is your best friend in terms of getting around – forget driving if you’re aren’t a Seoulite. Vehicles inch forward at a snail’s pace and there seem to be no rules when it comes to U-turns. The 10 lines are comprehensive enough for you to find an appropriate station for all your destinations. Distances between line transfers are equivalent to long morning walks, and the rush hour human crush…indescribable. Canned sardines doesn’t come close by half.

Siswi SMP, bintang sekolah, cantik, cerdas, pintar, langganan ikut lomba mewakili sekolah saat SMP, mudah bergaul, bukan kutu buku, tapi kadang agak sedikit jail, itulah serentetan karakter Nana Sutedja.
(Paska)

Busan - Insider's Insight
An insider’s view
By Jade Han (Kozine Magazine, Aug 2009)
Create the best memento of Busan
Strictly in the below order:
- Sun-bathe at the beach in the day
- Indulge in some sashimi for dinner
- Play with fireworks at night.
Fast Facts
Population: About 3.6 million
Weather: Temperate with four seasons. Highest temperature is around 32°C in the summer and goes down to an average of 3.8°C during winter.
How to get there: Flights from Incheon to Gimhae (Busan) are available and take about an hour. From Seoul, you can choose to hop on a bus (five to six hours) or jump on the KTX train that will get you to your destination in less than three hours
Down under in Seo Myon
The current Korean male and female fashion trends are displayed in all its glory along this one-kilometre long retail haven – something that never fails to fascinate me each and every time. Why do I love shopping in Busan, you ask? The reason is the cost. You can shop until more than two hands are needed to hold your stash, sip cold, fresh fruit juice, have lunch and dinner at the food streets of Seo Myon with just 50,000 won in your pocket (approximately SGD$50). Try to beat that.
Discovering Nampodong
Alternatively, you can make a stop at Cha Gal Chi market, which hawks all the seafood you can imagine. Or head to Yong Du San Park if you are feeling shutter-happy. A must-go in my opinion? The B&C bakery. True, Korea is awash with bakeries like Paris Baguette and Crown Bakery, but the B&C bakery is exclusive to Nampodong. Don’t even think of missing the celebrated B&C dessert, Pat Bing Soo (Korean-style ice kachang).
Kwang Ann Lee beach

Lettuce dishes (for balancing pork)
Korean has a healthy way to eat pork dishes, i.e. by wrapping it in lettuce!
This is the only dish I ate more during my Korea trip in 2007 ... Black pork (Indonesian: celeng, just like in Asterix-Obelix) in Jeju Island is the most delicious cuisine on the tour.
Here is a posting of all pork dishes, with different type of cooking (steamed, BBQ, with kimchi, with rice cake)... Wang Jokbal, Bo ssam, Ssam bap...
1) Take a leaf of fresh lettuce and put a slice of pork on it.
2) Next, garnish it with the kimchi.
3) Wrap it all up and pop it in your mouth at one go
Ssam Bab - meat (beef, pork or chicken) served with lettuce and rice balls (white or mixed grain).
Jal mogo yo! (Happy eating!)

OK, this is my sharing when I travel to Korea with my best friend in early May. First edition in Nami Island. Next edition - only when I am not lazy...
Ini gambar becak roda 4 ala Korea (turis menggenjot sendiri) -- sayang gak sempat foto pas ada bapak Korea menggenjot penumpang istri dan anak.
This is a 4-wheel rickshaw Korean style (tourist becomes the cyclist himself) -- to bad, I did not take a picture when there was a Korean man cycling the rickshaw with his wife and children.

Korean traditional house and Winter Sonata famous spot
Rumah Adat Korea
KoKi edisi Selasa, 26 Juni 2007
Nami Island is a standard shooting place -- a lot of domestic and foreign tourists. We have to take ferry to cross the sea.
This is a picture of a standard Korean house (in Jeju Island is quite ugly because they have storm-resistant roof). In Korea, there is only one ethnicity, i.e. Han. Culturewise, they are far less diverse than Indonesia.
This is the famous road for Winter Sonata -- I did not watch it, so I did not understand the sentimental value. "You must see it so you can appreciate", said my best friend who travelled with me. This venue is changing color by season change. I went there on spring.

The most expensive Teddy bear in the world (because she is wearing Louis Vuitton)
This is what I share from Jeju Island, Teddy Bear Museum (they said it was used to shoot Princess Hours, but I didn't watch it hehe). The museum is 3-storey building. We enter from the highest floor, and go down. The basement is used for souvenir shop. Jeju Island is famous with her mini oranges (you have to eat with the skin). Once a year only, in April -- I tasted a bit. But I didn't really like the flavor (IMO).

All are boxed up in glasses, as amateur photographer, there were reflections.

Idea behind Viol-in-Love (Book 3)
I compare Sonny with Sarah Chang, the famous child violin prodigy from Korea. Here is one interview article with her from Kozine Magazine, January 2009 (by Lydia Soh)
----------
What would you be if you were not a professional violinist?
I can’t imagine doing anything else, since I’ve devoted so much of my life to the violin. I do love the music industry though, and would have loved to be involved in some aspect of the music business. Be it the recording industry or dealing with concert promotion etc.
Do you have any favourite pieces of music?
I love anything and everything Brahms wrote.Shostakovich and Sibelius are also my favourites.
Any pre-concert rituals?
Not really! I give too many concerts a year to be locked down into any sort of ritual. I do try to get plenty of rest before a concert; I almost always take a nap and have my own personal quiet time before a concert.
Some classical musicians have chosen to go down the commercial or pop route. Would you ever consider doing that?
No. I don’t feel that it is necessary. I have a wonderful, loyal fan base and I love the work that I do and the music that I have devoted myself to. Some people are better suited for the crossover/pop route but I’m not one of them. I like the integrity and the honesty of the classical music world. You can dress things up or fluff it up in other fields. But with classical music, it truly does come down to whether or not you can deliver on-stage and whether you play well every performance.
I realise that I’m young, and I love fashion, clothes and going out with friends. But that’s the personal part of my life. When it comes to being onstage I like to keep things pretty straightforward. I have done commercials and advertisements for Movado watches and jewellery, I’ve also done advertisements for music/string companies. And I recently did a TV commercial for IBK Bank in Korea. I do make sure though that the companies and names I’m associated with are of the highest quality and only select projects that mean something to me.
Did you know?
• She is currently playing a 1717 Guarneri del Gesu violin
• Yale University dedicated a chair at Sprague Hall in her name in 2005
Your most memorable or unforgettable performance to date.
Too many to count! All my debuts were pretty special - my Carnegie Hall debut, my Berlin Philharmonic debut, etc. I played in Pyong Yang several years ago, that was an eye-opening experience for me. I have also played at the Olympic Stadium in Korea and also the World Cup Stadium, all those outdoor events were pretty spectacular.
Tell us something about yourself that people would not normally expect of or associate with you.
That I love to have fun, love to dance and can’t drink to save my life. And I’m also hopeless in the kitchen.

Kimchi Fried Rice
Fried rice seems to be associated with any Asian countries, including Korea. Here is a recipe from Kozine magazine (July 2009).
Kimchi Fried Rice
At home, we usually use well fermented (or riped) kimchi for the fried rice or kimchi chigae (soup), as it is a bit too sourish to eat on its own.
There is no standard recipe or cooking procedure for this particular dish, as you can add anything you have in your fridge. You can add other vegetables such as onion, spring onion and garlic. And you can also choose to add luncheon meat, egg, tofu, beef and so on. It’s just like any other fried rice, but of course the essence of the dish is the kimchi and its gravy.
Below is one recipe. But as mentioned, you can always replace the meat with luncheon meat.
• 2 cup of cooked rice
• 1/2 cup of kimchi with liquid
(pickled fermented vegetables)
• 50g of minced pork or ground beef
• 1 tbsp soy sauce
• 1/4 onion
• 1 egg
• 1 clove of garlic
• 2 roots of green onion
• Vegetable or olive oil
• Salt,pepper,sugar
Directions
- Cook rice.
- Chop kimchi into small pieces. Save kimchi gravy (liquid) to add to rice, if desired.
- Dice and mince green onions, onions, and garlic.
- Season the minced pork or beef with soy sauce, minced garlic and powdered pepper.
- Saute the pork (or other substitutes) with vegetable or olive oil in frying pan.
- When the pork is cooked, add chopped onions, kimchi and cook for 5 minutes.
- Add minced garlic and green onion. Cook a little more and turn off the heat.
- Add cooked rice and mix all ingredients well.
- Add 1-2 tbsp of sesame oil and re-heat again.
- Add salt, pepper and sugar to meet taste.
- Cook egg sunny side up (or scrambled).
- Put rice on a dish and place a fried egg sunny side up on top.

PK's birthday bouquet
Today I will write about PK's birthday. It is 14 March, the same as Albert Einstein's birthday. I purposely chose this date because this is also my lil sis' birthday (the one who looks like Rain - the Korean star).
If you read Book 3 Simfoni Cinta, you recall that Nana was down with sore throat, so she went to a doctor to get an MC (medical certificate). Then, she went to PK's apartment to hand-deliver his birthday present ^.^ and Phil's manager (Manager Bae) was stunned when he looked at what she brought for a birthday present!
Here is what I have in mind when Nana created a chocolate bouquet for her boyfriend Phil.
Well, actually I was highly inspired by Ferrero Rocher TV ad when the bride had a chocolate bouquet instead of a normal flower bouquet - and she was sad when she had to throw away the bouquet... It was one of my all-time favorite advertisements.

Seaweed Soup
Here is recipe of what they eat for lunch: Seaweed Soup (Miyeok Guk)

Submitted By: Eunah Lee Photo By: Christopher

| 1. | Soak seaweed in water to cover. When soft, drain, and cut into 2 inch pieces. |
| 2. | Heat a saucepan over medium heat; add beef, sesame oil, 1/2 tablespoon soy sauce, and a little salt, and cook for 1 minute. Stir in seaweed and remaining 1 tablespoon soy sauce; cook for 1 minute, stirring frequently. Pour in 2 cups water, and bring to a boil. Stir in garlic and remaining 4 cups water. Bring to a boil, cover, and reduce heat. Simmer for 20 minutes. Season to taste with salt. |

Casting for Phil Kim
As I mentioned before, handsome guys had inspired me to create the character of Phil Kim. I had my hillarious moments with my sister(s) when I have just finished writing book 2 Romansa Singapura and I was just back to Singapore.
In daily life, I am pretty much composed and some may consider me as a serious person. You will almost never catch me off guard or stunned - except when I saw the following guys for the first time, on TV.

Boys Over Flower and me
Look at me posing nearby Apple office in Cupertino.
Then when I was back to Singapore, Channel U aired this OK, this Korean version of F4. The Taiwanese Meteor Garden, the Japanese, and now the Korean - my sister(s) watch all of them. (Even the Indonesian tried to plagiate as well).
Yun Ji-hu (originally Hanazawa Rui) is familiar. It's like when I was looking at the mirror everyday in my hotel's bathroom! His hair and white apparels were definitely similar to my style!!!

Kujolp'an: 9-in-1 appetizer menu
Recipe from Food Network
IngredientsFOR THE PANCAKES:
1 cup flour
2 egg whites
1 cup water
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon oil
FOR THE FILLINGS:1/4 pound sirloin steak, trimmed and cut into very thin strips
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1/2 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 garlic clove, finely chopped
- 1 scallion, minced
- 1 teaspoon honey
- Freshly ground black pepper
- 1/4 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1/2 chicken breast
- 1 pound spinach
- 3 tablespoons sesame oil, or more to taste
- 8 dried shiitake mushrooms, hydrated
- 1 carrot, julienned
- 2 eggs, separated into whites and yolks, beaten
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Directions
Make the pancakes:
- In a bowl, combine the flour, egg whites, water, and salt and stir until the batter is smooth.
- To a heated non-stick pan, add the oil. Drop in tablespoons of batter to form thin pancakes about 3-inches in diameter.
- Fry lightly on both sides. Transfer to a plate. Using a 3-inch ring mold or cup, cut the pancakes into a perfect circle.
- In a bowl, combine the beef, soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, scallion, honey, and black pepper. Saute the mixture in a pan until the beef is cooked through, about 5 minutes. Set aside.
Poach the shrimp in salted water, about 3 minutes. When cool enough to handle, julienne the shrimp. Set aside. - Poach the chicken in salted water until cooked through, about 10 minutes. When cool enough to handle, shred the chicken. Add salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.
- Blanch the spinach for about 1 minute and then quickly transfer to an ice bath. Squeeze excess water from the spinach and julienne. In a bowl, combine the spinach with 1 tablespoon of the sesame oil, salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.
- Squeeze excess water from the shiitake mushrooms, remove the stems and discard, and julienne the mushroom caps. To a heated pan, add 1 tablespoon sesame oil. Add mushrooms, salt and pepper to taste and saute until mushrooms are soft, about 1 minute. Set aside.
- Add another tablespoon sesame oil to the pan with the carrots, salt and pepper to taste. Saute until the carrots are slightly cooked but not completely soft, about 1 minute. Set aside.
- Add a pinch of salt and pepper to the whites and yolks and stir to combine. To a heated non-stick pan on moderately low heat, add 1 tablespoon of oil. Pour the egg whites into the pan and swirl the pan around to form a thin layer with the egg whites. Once the eggs have cooked through, turn them out onto a plate. Repeat the process with the yolks. Let cool, then julienne the whites and yolks. Set aside.
- When ready to serve, place each filling into a compartment of the kujolpan dish, with the pancakes in the center compartment. Alternatively, pile the pancakes in the center of a large platter and arrange the 8 fillings around the pancakes. To eat, take a pancake and fill it with any combination of fillings to taste.

N Seoul Tower as cover background
As you can see, the background for the final book is Seoul Tower. Personally I like towers (perhaps with an exception of Tower of London with horrible bloody history). Since I do really like modern towers, and I always try to visit any tower landmark in whichever city I went to, I always have good feeling about observatory towers.

How to wear hanbok
by Lydia Soh
Kozine Magazine, January 2009
Looking for a hanbok?
Hanbok House sells and rents hanboks. Borrowing rates range from $55 (child) to $90 (adult) for a three-day period.
Hanbok House is at #03-22, Katong Mall. Tel: 63487940
How to wear a hanbok
The underskirt goes on first. For some flounce and volume, a ‘moojiki’ (shown here) would be a better alternative.
- Slip on the ‘chi-ma’ (skirt) by first pulling on the shoulder straps. Wrap the ‘chi-ma’ around.
- Attach the ‘nori-gae’ (traditional brooch) before tying the ‘chi-ma’.
- The ‘jeo-go-ri’ (top) is next.Fasten the inner ‘go-reum’ (ribbon) first before tying the outer ‘go-reum’.
- All dressed up!
Hair-y details

Posing in hanbok for a lifetime memory to share with our future grandchildren. Friends for life. From Seoul with love.

Schoolaholic Princess Talkshow (by Josh Chen)
e-mail dikirim tgl 26 Feb 2009 dan 16 Feb 2009 - tapi Yunisa lagi kumat malasnya, so baru diupload sekarang. Gomen-nasai! Special thanks to Suhu JC + nyonya yang menemani meliput acara ini.
----------------------------------------
Bagaimana isi buku tsb?

Meet & Greet with Robby - Aditya FM Pekanbaru
Pertama datang, bawa cokelat n mau pamer novels hehe - can you believe that I was actually quite in a bad mood??? Demi pose di blog, harus pasang senyum no matter what!
That is what I learn. No cover up here, I just spill the beans out, tanpa tedeng aling-aling lagi.
Welcome to Pekanbaru, Yun -- that was what Pak Harry said. Lain ladang, lain belalang; lain lubuk, lain ikannya. Beda daerah, beda adat / behaviournya.
Sampai akhirnya, saya samperin aja radionya setelah sarapan (Jumat, 23 Jan 09). Waktu itu saya bilang ke geng saya (Kak Rus, Mag, adikku Riana): just drop the chocolate, if there is no warm reception alias gak ada sambutan, kita cabut aja. For the sake of courtesy dulu aku udah janji bakal drop by ke Aditya FM kalau aku ke Pekanbaru... Syukur-syukur bisa ketemu Robby or Nadine. If not, ya udah deh, bye-bye aja...
Rupanya Tuhan mendengarkan keluhan saya. Robby ada di kantor. HOREEEE!!! Semua yang kacau jadi membaik... I am quite pleased about that :)
Voila, segalanya berubah! Dengan ramah dan apologetic Robby menjelaskan masalahnya - next time better contact him directly - dan ternyata Penerbit Andi cabang Riau menghubungi bagian marketing - itulah mengapa tidak ada respons --> because you don't contact the right person.

Apa kata orang tua tentang trilogi Schoolaholic Princess
Dugaan saya terbukti ketika bayar upeti ke Dr Dede SS ("secara" dia kan yang encourage saya agar menulis, makanya saya jadi novelis sekarang ini, jadi pasti dapet autographed copies -- walau mestinya gak dia baca haha).
Suatu siang, beberapa hari sebelum Natal 2008 di Singapura
*bla bla* pokoknya as usual, beliau murah hati mengeluarkan kata-kata pujian tentang novels yang berhasil terbit. Padahal menurut saya, I don't deserve such praises.
"Ah, kalau dokter nggak encourage saya, I won't be writing novels," Yunisa menyahut, merasa tidak layak menerima pujian soal novels. Kan my novels belum go international... Rencana tahun ini kembali bersemangat membuka jalan agar bisa go international (maksudnya terbit edisi English)...
"No, no, I think you should keep writing!" balas Dr Dede.
...yg 3 lainnya bhs gaul sekali ya...seger deh kelihatannya...ntar saya tanya2 kl gak ngerti maksudnya ya... Baru baca pra-katanya doang. -- Avy, Canada
I have nothing more to say ^_^ maksudku, udah deh, para bapak-bapak dan ibu-ibu yang tidak remaja lagi -- nanti kalau Schoolaholic Princess dibuat serial or film, baru deh... silakan membaca HAHAHA

Cover Scan of Book 2: Romansa Singapura
Although she has read the manuscript before few years ago, she's still loving it... ^_^
Well, actually Phil's motor cycle should be white, so the original design was correct, but aesthetically, I like this cover more since white motor cycle did not look catchy in blue-white background.
Cover Scan of Book 1: The Miracle Boys
Ashton Kucher -- not Kutcher
Maksim the pianist -- not Maxim (this is men magazine)
Anyway, I borrow her copy to scan the cover as my own personal copy has been covered by plastics hahaha =D

And I answered (seriously I have started doing this), I want to give low-income children who have good spirit to learn, a chance to study. Schoolaholic Princess Promo @ Plaza Ambarukmo
Date: 12 Dec 08
Time: 6pm onwards
Venue: Gramedia Plaza Ambarukmo, Yogyakarta
Well, my high school best friend Rurun who came from Kutoarjo with her first son and maid sent me to Ambarukmo Plaza (Amplas). Passing by Gramedia Ampas, I said to her: "Run, stop, I need to take a picture of that banner to blog it!"
At 6 pm the introduction by Maya, the moderator for Jumpa Penulis (meet the writer) -- and I had to talk a lot about my novels from Sakura Bersemi di Yokohama, Sydney Darling Harbour and of course Schoolaholic Princess trilogy!
Frankly speaking, the journalists (radio reporters: Yasika FM and one of my ex schoolmate -- forgot the radio's name plus Bernas - newspaper) were more aggressive than what I expected. I am used to interviews (thanks to Pak Harry - Mediacorps, who sent me to be interviewed many times even in NHK Japan), usually the questions asked are easy to answer and non-intimidating. But those questions I faced in my own hometown were tough... Fortunately, since I know what I am writing for -- I am writing with a cause -- good purpose, I can answer all questions tactfully.

Interview with Aditya FM Pekanbaru
Well, we talked a lot about my first novel Sakura Bersemi di Yokohama, my life in Singapore -- whether it affects my writing hobby (oh yes! definitely working full-time with clocking 300 hours a month to plenty projects really makes me unable to write any fiction...) And one of the audience asked me when Schoolaholic Princess Trilogy will come to Pekanbaru... And I was teased a lot because I killed the favorite male lead in my first novel HAHAHAH...
I will be off to Sydney soon (thanks to my second novel Sydney Darling Harbour) -- I won a quiz of Romantic Sydney Getaway from 91.3FM (a radio in Singapore).
PS: I will drop by in Aditya FM next January 2009 and hold a novels promo in Gramedia Pekanbaru.

"Nana!" Heni dengan kenes memanggilku. Kamu masuk semifinal! kok diam saja?" Semifinal? Semifinal apa?

Lalu dengan lembut ia berbisik "Be My Honey!" Rasanya jantungku bergegup sangat kencang dan mukaku menjadi panas. Phil mendekatkan bibirnya ke telingaku lagi. Kurasakan sensor-sensor di telingaku bertambah sensitif " Would you.....
